Michael Mierendorf is an experienced writer and producer of documentary films, having won two national and prime-time Emmys and many other prestigious industry awards. His work has appeared on PBS Frontline, commercial networks and in independent productions. Throughout his career, Mierendorf’s films have always been on the cutting edge of world events and social challenge. From the first view of post-war Vietnam, famine and war in Africa, the Aids crisis and a variety of environmental and public health subjects, Mierendorf has always focused on the human dimension of the story. His deep interest in human psychology led him to produce films for HBO on the impacts of early trauma on children (Broken Child) and another about Multiple Personality Disorder (Deadly Memories), became the basis for a motion picture. Still another project for HBO (Without Pity) explored the lives of disabled Americans. It won a prime-time Emmy for outstanding documentary film and is widely recognized as a landmark work on the subject.
Michael is the recipient of the Jefferson Award for Public Service in New Jersey and the Heart and Soul Award from the Stephen Center Homeless Shelter.
